Trivia No 1:

Believe it or not, the superb PM-94 and PM-84 could be purchased for a fraction of their original prices in the early 1990s through various mail order liquidation companies, such as COMB and DAMARK.  This may have been a result of over-production, economic recession, or simply the high original M.S.R.P.  The following thread was written by Ralph Gonzales of Rutgers University on January 1, 1992.  This thread was found on Google News Groups.  The following text is verbatim:

Here's the info on what looks like a good deal for an integrated amp and a few other items from a mail-order liquidation house. The phone number is given below. Item # c3113-7360: Marantz 140w/ch int. amp model pm-94, $2000 list, sells for $699.99. Item # c3109-7453: Marantz 105w/ch int. amp model pm-84d, $1100 list, sells for $499.99. Both models are goldtone with rosewood side panels, and have gold-plated connectors and "Quarter-A" circuitry (they are pure class A up to 1/4 their rated power). MOSFET output transistors. COMB: 1-800-328-0609 This company has a few very good deals, among many "sort of" good deals. A few more audio items which looked good to me are: Item # c3862-7360: Fisher Professional Digital Reference Dual Cassette Deck model cr-z1, Dolby b,c,hx,dbx; full logic, amorphous heads (12 Hz-21 kHz +-3dB), very solid looking, list $699, sells for $199. Item # c2486-7360: Epicure 6" speakers, select mahogany veneers, list$350, sells for $99/pr. Plus several Wharfedale speakers for lsess than 1/2 list price... All items are new and fully warranted by the manufacturer. Disclaimer: I don't have any association with the company, and have only ordered a couple of things, which turned out fine. -Ralph
