Marantz manufactured a variation of the PM-94, the PM-94 Digital Monitoring Amplifier. It was not sold in the United States, intended instead for export markets other than the U.S. In all probability, the circuitry was identical to the original PM-94, but carried the moniker Digital Monitoring Amplifier, which did not appear on the version shipped to America. The amplifier was shown in Marantz' Japanese brochures finished in black, which was the general trend in stereo components by that time. It is not known if a limited edition was available in gold finish. The side panels were simulated, unlike the real rosewood and clear lacquer side panels on the gold finished PM-94. The PM-94 Digital Monitoring Amplifier had other visual cues that distinguished it from the U.S. version. The top cover was of a different design than the gold finished PM-94 that was sold in the United States. Also, the front corners of the unit were black and designed to tie into the design of the front panel; the U.S. version had the rosewood side panels ran completely from the front panel to the back of the unit.
Layout of the front panel of the PM-94 Digital was identical
to the PM-94.
PM-94 Digital Monitoring Amplifier Interior The interior of both the PM-94 and PM-94 Digital Monitoring Amplifier were also identical. The PM-94 DMA featured simulated rosewood side panels and black anodized front panel with plastic knobs to lower the unit's cost.
